Mare’s Nest brings the best in International contemporary fiction to an English-language readership, together with associated non-fiction works. While concentrating on the flourishing literature of Iceland, Mare's Nest also publishes Faroese fiction and Hungarian non-fiction. The list includes the three Icelandic Nordic Prize-winning novels.

The poetic tradition in Iceland reaches back over a thousand years. The relatively unchanging language allows the great Sagas to be read and enjoyed by all Icelandic speakers. Contemporary writing in Iceland, while vivid and highly idiosyncratic, is coloured and liberated by this Saga background. Closely observed social nuance can exist comfortably within the most exuberant and inventive magic realism.
